A Connetquot High School student was arrested Wednesday after police said he was found in possession of heroin at the school.
Suffolk County police said school officials notified them that Matthew Stambler, 18, of Bohemia was in possession of “a quantity of heroin.” Police placed him under arrest.
Stambler was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug, both felonies.
“This is now an ongoing police investigation and the district is cooperating fully with the Suffolk County Police Department,” she said in a statement. “Because of privacy laws, the District can not comment further on this event.”
Police said 90 packets of heroin were seized during the arrest.
Stambler was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday. Judge Jennifer Henry set bail at $75,000 bond or $30,000 cash, which Stambler did not post, according to online court records.
James Pascarella, a Mineola attorney representing Stambler, declined to comment on the charges, but described his client as “a good kid” and former Eagle Scout.
